That is awesome I need this.
Does it work if you only put in one slice?
Found one of these for $20 at a thrift store. I had heard they were the cream of the crop in the antique toaster world. I've seen them go for a couple hundred online and at antique stores. Mine is like the third, broken one he pulls out. It has that front dial/lever. It's probably from the late 60s/ early 70s. It has a very outdated cord. It works, but even on the lightest toast setting, it chars that shit. Maybe it needs some good old compressed air blown in. Idk. As a lifelong fan of the movie The Brave Little Toaster, I must say I love this toaster. Simple, yet pretty genius. Gonna give mine a good shine and a new cord
I want that Sunbeam toaster! Where can I get one?
We had one of those when I was a kid.
Hey look, Morning Brew found your channel, anyone new, stick around this is a great channel.
The moment I saw "The antique toaster that’s better than yours." on the news, I knew it was going to send me here.
I detest dried out, nearly burnt bread; which is why I always make toast on a griddle. After watching this I am stunned by the thought that I might try to find one of these electric bread burners to buy. Amazing technology, simple and elegant.
When all your toasters are antiquated by an antique
Never in a million years would I have thought I would watch a 18+ minute video about toasters. However, I was intrigued and captivated. I did not understand all of the terms or explanation of how it works, but it was very interesting!
I'm 64…we had that toaster when I was growing up.
14:41 best caption XD
(Oh God, he has a THIRD one)
The fastest way to that sexy tech priest's heart.
This is really cool! Now I want to search eBay for antique toasters.
I bought one, but it makes really dark toast even on the lightest setting. Anybody else have this issue and know how to correct it?
The reason they don't make a toaster like that anymore is basically the same as a the light bulb conspiracy. Planned obsolescence. They need to keep selling crap toasters
I don't even have a toaster
And it makes the best toasts! Cooks really fast amazing. Could not find a modern toaster that works as well.
"oh my god, he has a third one." caught me off guard. 😀
What happens with all that excess machinery. Does he actually use them? Does he sell them? Is there somewhere a city size warehouse full off unused gear?

Dammit, now I have to buy one….to Ebay!
Honestly every toaster I've bought in the last 20 years has been crappy. The heating elements don't warm evenly the toast comes out blotchy every time. I finally give up and bought a toaster oven and then I bought a better toaster oven. $60 will get you a nice looking modern toaster that does not work well. I think people would pay $100 for one of these.
doesn't toast both sides with the same *ferocity. not veracity. sorry not trying to be a prick
Brave Little Toaster. I'm surprised I have yet to see anyone make the connection
Wow state of the arts👌
I immediately though of this video while watching Colin Furze build a catapult toaster. https://youtu.be/Rslps0Yxbdw
I used to have one of these! But that was before the divorce.
With modern tech, why not have individual control of each heating element with infrared thermometers? Why not blue tooth phone app control? Better yet, why not a laser toaster? You could print pictures on your toast. Jesus, just think of the possibilities! I'm sure they'd find a way to print advertising though. "I've been trying to reach you about your toaster's extended warranty."
I want one. I don't need my toasters telling me the weather or being wirelessly connected to everything. Just heat up my bread.
So the toast came up burnt and you can't just toast one piece of bread. Sounds fantastic.
"By the time this video is over, you're going to be mad at your toaster."
Dude, I'm already mad at my toaster. Why do you think I clicked on this video?
I actually like it when the slice of toast is a little darker on the outside and a little lighter on the inside cause the darker will be my outside of my sandwich that's crispier and the lighter slightly later side will be on the inside of my sandwich. I have a smart toaster for slice I can control 8 elements individually so I can actually turn one side of side of a slice of bread darker or lighter because I can control each element I don't just have to do it as per set on 1 slice or 2 slice or 3 slice I can set individual sides of sides of my toaster and I actually sat by and saw it starker 1 side a little lighter on the opposite side
The video indicates that the sensor determines when it's done based on the color, or darkness of the bread… How does this toaster handle darker bread like 'pumpernickel'?
Cut this to 5 or less minutes and u go yourself a vid.
The Verge wrote an article about this toaster the other day and linked to this video saying, "…it might be the smartest thing you watch today."
Time to start making vintage toasters
I bet this video is why these are so darn expencive on ebay.
I lost my vintage 4 slice toaster when I divorced and it went with her. I bought a toaster to replace it and it’s the absolute worst piece of crap ever. The knob that sets the amount of browning doesn’t function except the last 10% of its range. Trying to get the right browning is next to impossible. As a result I eat toast much much darker than preferred. I think it’s so called Chinese junk.
This toaster literally has asbestos in it, so wouldnt actually recommend using it but it is cool
Awesome. I will try to reproduce this old model for my own sake! Thanks!
Ma and Pa STILL use their toaster which is decades before this and it's bagel width. Best*Toaster*Ever*Made*… when it dies I will rewire, upgrade and keep it, just like their Golden Hour Mystery Clock.
Bro just stumbled on to your channel….it's awesome….ty
I have one! We still use this one every day and we got it for a wedding gift 60 years ago!!!
We had a toaster that was horizontal, you placed the bread into it and when it reached the other side it was perfectly toasted. I have not been able to find one of these no matter how much I have searched. I suspect that it also was a Sunbeam toaster.
And the best part about the toaster it's made in America
